These young ladies from Mukalla, Hadramaut dreamed of making a change despite the social and political limitations. In less than a year, they have made a great impact.
During my visit to Mukalla, I was extremely impressed by a group of passionate and zealously committed young ladies in empowering the social welfare of the locals.
Social well being and change are truly made by those committed citizens.
I wanted to know more about them, so I interviewed one of the founders!
1- What is TAKWEEN and how did it begin?
TAKWEEN is a cultural club of young dreamers who seek change. It has begun as a passionate notion held by six young girls, living in Mukalla city, running some small volunteer works by the name of (Female for good)
2- Who is behind TAKWEEN?
TAKWEEN is empowered by its funders and co-founder. Youth most of them are undergraduate students all of them share the same perspective of making a change in our society. Passionate enough to give time, effort and even sometimes money.
And we, in TAKWEEN, are very thankful for Alamal women’s sociocultural foundation, for being the first supporter who had their faith in TAKWEEN.
3- what kind of activities or events is it focused on?
We are, in TAKWEEN, interested in everything that can relieve the culture and Art in our community which is Hadramout governorate, we believe it’s full of good young people, if they just got the chance to be opened to the international modern world, we truly believe that we can make the great change. Mostly our activities and events focus on all the cultural aspects such as reading books, watch movies, debates, and discussion about the cultural movement in the world around us.
4- what is the aim, purpose, and goal of TAKWEEN’s existence?
Because the history was written down in the name of the great civilizations, and civilizations are brought up by human beings, we are concerned about our own cultural heritage here in Hadramout and how we can reflect that great and reach Hadrami and Yemeni culture. Also to let people that there are Youth here who seeks peaceful coexistence and are eager to be positive influencers.
5- What is the future of TAKWEEN?
As future has no limits, there’s no limit for our ambition. So in the near future, we can see TAKWEEN as an international cultural organization gathering different cultures on one table.
6- Who supports TAKWEEN?
Everyone who believes in Takween’s world from the beginning.
7- Do you look for monetary and stationary aid? If yes, who is your go-to person/entities?
Actually yes, as a non-profit club we need donors to support us in order to continue with our projects.
Tell now we have just contacted with local NGOs here in Mukalla. Because we have just started before one year!
But our next year plan is to start searching for grants tenders from international organizations that support the cultural aspects. We actually have a list to start with 🤓
8- What would you like the world to know about TAKWEEN?
TAKWEEN is a message for peaceful coexistence. For loving the world around us with different backgrounds and cultural heritage. TAKWEEN is our small word that contains the whole planet. Takween is about all the young people who made Takween.

10- What is missing in TAKWEEN?
The small fall and imperfections are what makes TAKWEEN stronger, even though we try our best to fill the holes and come up with the finest picture of TAKWEEN. It’s a matter of a learning process.
12- What have been the most successful and least successful events TAKWEEN had?
the first picture came to my mind is an evening on July 2017 when we for the first time held a musical poetry event .. it was a night to remember our hearts were overjoyed that was the first event of Takween.
We here in TAKWEEN try to make good of all bad events. There is no time of frustration.
13- Is TAKWEEN a profit or nonprofit club?
It is a totally non-profit club
